Lake Street looking west toward Marion Street, 1933Lake Street looking west toward Marion Street, 1933

The photo shown here is of Lake Street in Downtown Oak Park. Photographer Fred G. Wright took this picture in 1933. It’s just one of the thousands of marvelous images in the collection of the Oak Park River Forest Museum that capture and enlighten moments in the history of our villages.

Until now, we haven’t had a viable way to share more than a handful of these images at a time. The new Photo Store website will let us display hundreds of photos that you can browse from your computer, tablet, or smart phone. And if there is an image that you find especially compelling, you can order it from the website, either as a photographic print or reproduced on a variety of items like a T-shirt, a mousepad, a smart phone case, and more.

We will be adding more photos to the website, but we can’t post our entire collection of images here all at once. Instead, we’ll rotate pictures in and out of the Photo Store and we’ll change galleries from time to time to showcase as broad a sample of our archives as possible. So please come back often to browse through the Photo Store as it grows and changes.

This is a new venture for us and we’d appreciate your feedback. Please share your comments and suggestions with us. You can either email us by clicking on the contact button or you can post a comment on this blog.

Thank you for visiting our blog. We’ll post entries here relating the history behind some of the photographs in our collection and the stories of some of the photographers who took them. We’ll also post news and announcements about our image collection and our online Photo Store here. Our next blog post will focus on Fred G. Wright, the photographer who took the picture that accompanies this post. We hope you’ll come back to read his story.
